Wordpress. Much More than a blog.
Here at Infobox we are proud to deploy many internet solutions based on the extremely powerful "Wordpress" application. For those in the know Wordpress is often considered a blogging platform but it is also much more. Wordpress has developed into a full blown content management system and is one of the best platforms available on the net today.
So why Wordpress?
Before I delve into the advantages of using Wordpress I would like to point out that it does not suit every need. It is best used as a content management system where the average site visitor will be reading content or buying products. Anything that requires advanced user interface controls will require a bespoke development job.
Wordpress is a SEO dream
Wordpress has been in development for well over 6 years. The first release of Wordpress in 2003 was only a small application to allow content publishers to create great content with the minimum of fuss. It has grown literally week by week since then and now it is a full blown internet application system. In this time one of the most impressive things to grow with Wordpress is its SEO capabilities.
Out of the box Wordpress is ready to go from a SEO point of view. It is already optimised and produces one of the best SEO tools you will find anywhere. The level of SEO that comes integrated in a Wordpress would easily cost upto tens of thousands of pounds if you were to employ a SEO expert. This is all free in Wordpress standard install.
To add to this there are a number of extra SEO plugins that can easily be added to Wordpress. Over 500 are currently floating around the internet but there are a handful of extremely special ones that will allow any Wordpress blog or website to be a SEO powerhouse with hardly any cost to the client.
Wordpress is amazing for the admin.
If managing your site is important to you there is no better user interface than Wordpress. It is considered the most user friendly of all blog and CMS applications for this aspect of its structure alone. Even non-techy, non-savvy people can be taught to use Wordpress in minutes rather than days with the advanced functionlity being learnable in hours rather than weeks.
You just simply log in and you are faced with a few links. Eg "Add new page" - Now what do you think that means?
Yes, add a new page. All you do is click the add a new page link, give it a title and some text and click publish. Your front end website is updated instantly along with the appropriate link added to the navigation. No code know how needed whatsoever.
Of course the functionality of Wordpress is deep and go's a long way if you wish to learn that much however for the average user who just wants to be able to edit existing content or even add new content altogether, wordpress is easily the best bet for a short learning curve.
Expanable beyond belief.
Wordpress can be expanded to meet many internet needs. For example if you need an online shop, no problem, just plug one into your Wordpress. Need a property management website, plug it in, need facebook integration, plug it in etc etc etc. The options with Wordpress are not limitless but they often make you feel they are.
For some expansion you will need a professional to make sure everything works with your existing layout, design and structure but compare this to actualy having these features created from scratch. If, for example, you approached a developemnt company for a bespoke property management system you would easily be looking at thousands of pounds. With Wordpress you will get the same, if not better, functionality at a very small fraction of the bespoke costs. Whats even better is that the front end result is still bespoke as it will blend seamlessly into your existing website design.
So is Wordpress for you?
As much as we love Wordpress and recommend it wherever we feel it will suit a solution there are many times it will not be the right way to go. In these cases we will usually jump over to a different CMS or offer to build the solution from scratch using only the latest asp.net technologies.
If all the above sounds like an interesting prospect for you and like the solution you think you need please do get in touch. Our team of highly experienced professionals are happy to help and guide you into making the right decision. If Wordpress is not for you, we will look into your budget and give you a fantastic report into what you are looking at - no obligation of course.
