Writing relevant content and why its important.

The content on your site should be relevent to the service you have, the products you sell, the locality you trade in and anything else you would like to be noticed for.

This may sound like stating the obvious but you would be surprised how many sites dont really use this to their advantage.

If you are a Plastering firm you might think it is enough to state on your site that you are a plasterer, add a few words regarding your sevices and then offer your telephone number. And why not, thats all thats needed in traditional advertising like the yellow pages. The thing is, the Search Engines love content.

Content is KING. The best SEO tip of all.

Many designers and SEO experts will tell you content is king on the internet - above all else.
So, it stands to reason that your short yet effective sales message isnt going to be loved by the search engines and therefore not reach nearly as many people as possible. The Search Engines would rather find a site that has something more. A list of clients and descriptions of past jobs undertaken. A couple of pages describing a few helpful things people should know about your trade, product or service.

The content is different for every product and site but with a little imagination you can soon muster up enough pages of content to really give the Search Engines a good read. They will love you for it. As a rule you should aim for at least one page of content dedicated to each search term you would like to be found on the internet for - when possible go for more.

You can never have enough content when it comes to the Search Bots.

NOTE ON BAD PRACTICE : Some people try to add page after page of key-words just so they can get hundreds of relevent words onto their site. Do Not Try This At Home. It is called key-word stuffing and you WILL be penalised for it. The content on a site should be readable and make sense to humans - The Search Bots know the difference.

The killer SEO blow.

Content is KING so much on the internet that great text with no SEO can get you seriously amazing search engine results.

On the flip side SEO CAN BE HARMFUL to your site if the search engines get the slightest sniff that the designer is putting SEO techniques before the actual content.
A very true fact.

SEO is good to utilise but the content comes first. Nearly ALL designers and SEO's fall into this trap when early into learning SEO techniques.
To sum up. Content is King. Content is King. Content is King. SEO is the just the clothes the King wears.
