New year resolutions

1 – Make sure your website code is clean and valid.
Messy, obsolete or error-filled HTML code can lead to all of the following problems :

* Users not being able to access parts of your site or the site altogether
* Google and other search engines may struggle to index your site, and may penalise you with a low search engine ranking
* Compromises to the security of your site and the integrity of data
* Your business or organisation appearing as unprofessional
2 – Boost your traffic figures
The more people you can drive to your site the better, there are various ways you can do this.
* Optimise your content ensuring you have lots of relevant keywords
* Check your META title and description tags
* Build in-bound links to your website
* List your website on business directories
* Register with Google AdWords for Pay Per Click advertising
* Monitor your traffic with Google Analytics
3 – Get sociable
2009 saw the metoric rise of Social Networking sites – this trend is sure to continue in 2010 so get your business involved. Effective use of social networking includes
* Using Twitter to keep customers up to date with promotions, company news or events
* Using Twitter to generate powerful links to your content
* Using Twitter to keep tabs on your competitors
* Using Facebook or MySpace to share media, generate discussion forums and generate even more inbound links
* Using YouTube to share videos and yet create yet more inbound links
4 – Start a weblog
Setting up a WordPress blog is quick, easy and affordable. Also Google indexes blog posts and updates very quickly and this could help you climb the search rankings by the time Spring comes along! Use your blog to
