Page Building SEO Checklist (Keyphrases)

Following this basic SEO (Search-Engine-Optimisation) check-list will ensure all your web pages have at least the very basic SEO techniques in place. Please note this is only a basic SEO checklist and there are much more advanced techniques that can be employed.

For each page on your website you should always have a target Keyphrase or Keyword. For example the Keyphrases for an electrician in Preston might be 'Preston House Rewiring' and 'Preston PAT testing.' Each of the phrases should have its own unique page of content.

Whenever possible Keyphrases should contain no less than two words - in other words don't try to optimise for single Keywords. It is much easier to be found as an electrician in preston than just and electrician.

For each of these Keyphrases a web page should be created with a minimum of 60 words although we suggest always going for as much text content as you can. The Keyphrases are then inserted into many different parts of the page strategically to make the search engines see your page exactly as you want them too - and therefore raise your search engine result position.

The following will give you a good overview of where to place your Keyphrases.

Keyphrase Appearance.

  • 1 time in the page URL.
  • 1 time in the META title.
  • 1 time in the page title. 1 time in the H1 tag.
  • 1 time per 2 paragraphs. (Especially first and last paragraphs. Paragraphs should be no more than four sentences)
  • 1 time in an image 'alt' tag.
  • 1 time in an image description area. (Where naturally applicable)

Word count.
Unless without reason, a general content page optimised for one key-phrase should have no less than 60 words.

How many pages?
As many as you can build. The search engines love content rich websites. See if you can think of a buyers guide, or a top ten list of products. The possibilities to create unique content are pretty much unlimited.

As a quick tip - if you can think of a term you want to be found for you have a good hint for a page of content.
